What will make me stand out from the other students when the examiner is reading my work ?

The top achieving students in MFL will do that little bit extra in addition to the normal lesson work and homework, that enables them to access the top grades.  Here are a number of ways to support your studies. 

The top students will make notes on every lesson, making cue cards as you go along will help you save time with your revision later in the year.  

Completing past papers will help you familiarise yourself with the format of the GCSE papers.  You can access these via this Google Classroom:

You can also use the MFL Department website for past papers and links for revision as well as sample speaking exams and suggested questions for the speaking exams next year.

There are many apps for your phone to support language learning : Duolingo, Babbel, Memrise, Linguascope to name a few.  Just 10 minutes every day for the whole of Year 11 will add up. 

These QR codes link to the EDUQAS website pages for each GCSE language.  Here you can find past papers, examiners marksheets – which give you hints as to what students didn’t do so well in previous exams, sample assessments and more.

Practice makes perfect, so any opportunity to use your language take it, with a friend, neighbour, relative, teacher…and look out for the extra revision classes to get you to those top grades.

There are many invaluable uses for languages alongside other subjects to support productivity in business today such as Law, Engineering and Sport.  It’s thought that the UK’s language skills deficit could be costing us up to £48 billion each year – that’s according to the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills. So why not perhaps consider studying a language alongside Physics, Law, Business, Food Technology or Sport ?
