Restorative Justice
Restorative Justice and Practice at Blessed Edward Oldcorne Catholic College
Blessed Edward’s is a ‘restorative college’. This means that we focus on the importance of relationships for maintaining emotional wellbeing, resolving conflict and preventing harm. All students, staff – including non-teaching staff – management, and the wider school community understand what acting restoratively means and how they can support one another.
If there is conflict between students or between staff and students, we seek to resolve the issue through dialogue in a restorative circle discussion. In the discussion all parties share how the conflict has made them feel and then they agree a plan to find a way forward.
In order to practise how to listen to one another and become familiar with restorative practices and language, tutor groups hold circle-time discussions on topical issues each week. This is also a great opportunity for students to share their opinions on important topics as well as practising oracy and learning how to speak with confidence.
The principles of restorative practice are at the core of Christian teachings on forgiveness and reconciliation and support our college virtues which we seek to practise daily
