Teacher – Your child’s main teacher, the first person to contact if you have a query about this subject.

Average Unit Grade can be one of 4 descriptors:

  • Emerging – Students are working at a basic level. They are learning new concepts and skills. They are yet to establish firm long-term memories of this subject.
  • Developing – Students have begun to develop long-term memories of this subject. Concepts and skills are beginning to be applied to new scenarios.
  • Securing – Students have many ideas and skills securely established in their long-term memory. They can apply some of these, with growing confidence, to new scenarios.
  • Excelling – Students have a sophisticated understanding of required concepts and skills established in their long-term memory. They confidently apply them to new scenarios, establishing links with wider experiences.

In future reports we will be developing subject specific descriptions for these grades.

Key Stage 4

New student report format.

We have introduced a new report format which we hope will provide a more informative picture of your student’s attainment and learning behaviour.

Report Overview

Minimum Target Grade – this is what the student is expected to achieve based on their prior attainment at KS2.
Teacher Predicted Grade – this is what the teacher believes a student will achieve if they continue to work at their present level, which is based on classwork, quality of homework and the teacher’s professional judgement.
Average Unit Grade – this is an average of what the student has achieved in their assessments throughout the course so far.

A – Some subjects are mainly coursework in Year 10, so it is misleading to give an “Average Unit Grade” for these subjects. However, teachers will give a “Teacher Predicted Grade”.
B– “Average Unit Grade” is colour coded by comparing this grade to a student’s “Minimum Target Grade”.  Students might appear “off target” in year 10 as they have yet to complete important sections of the syllabus. It is important to look at this grade in conjunction with Teacher Predicted Grade to get an overall picture of your child current performance.

C – At this stage of Year 10 students have been focusing on English Language only so there will not be an English Literature grade at this point.
